Previous research by the applicant has proven how an argumentation-based approach outperforms simple aggregation strategies employed so far in trust computation.
The model developed by the applicant since 2005 at Trinity College Dublin pioneered the use of argumentation schemes and defeasible reasoning into the computation of trust. Anyway, the argumentation layer used in the model is still at an embryonic stage, and the applicant lack of knowledge into the field in order to progress this part of the model.
The visit at Imperial College aims to investigate a more formal model of argumentation and embed it into the existing trust model. In particular, the semantic used so far should be validated and its formal properties analysed. Alternative semantic can be also investigated.
The short visit will provide an important missing part of my computational model of trust. It is envisaged as output a research paper and an ongoing application to financial trading providing an interesting and unique case study about the value-added that argumentation can provide in real scenarios.
The research topic will interest both WG4 and WG5 activities.
